NCSA Mosaic is a network navigational tool that allows you to easily access networked information with the click of a mouse button. Mosaic accesses data via protocols such as HTTP, Gopher, FTP, and NNTP (Usenet News) natively, and other data services such as Archie, WAIS, and Veronica through gateways. NCSA Mosaic provides transparent and seamless access to these information sources and services.
NSCA Mosaic was the first graphical web browser which Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape are both based on. Mosaic a vanilla flavored plain-jane web browser that has built-in e-mail and FTP features. (A little known fact is that you can even use Mosaic and Netscape to upload files via FTP as well as download multiple files.) Mosaic does not support Java, ActiveX, plug-ins, style sheets, or animated GIF files. The latest version of NCSA Mosaic for Windows is version 3.0 . It should be noted that version 3.0 is Windows 95/NT specific. The latest Windows 3.1x compatible version is also available for download. The source code of NCSA Mosaic (developed in Microsoft Visual C++ 4.0)is also available. Also available for Macintosh and X Windows.
